MICHAEL D JONES.  MARKET HALL WREXHAM

Michael David Jones was the son of David Jones and Elizabeth Michael. He was born early in 1854 in Brymbo, his father was from Cerrigydrudion and his mother from Brymbo. David Jones had a grocer’s shop in the village. David died on 2 March 1864 at the Bee Hive Stores in Brymbo, he was only about 40. Elizabeth stayed at the shop, but in 1871 her son Michael is at a private school in Abbey Square in Chester, he is 17 so way past the usual school leaving age.

In 1881 Elizabeth is still running the Bee Hive Stores in Brymbo, she is a shop keeper, draper and grocer, Michael David and his brother Christmas Day Jones and their sister are helping her.

In 1883 Michael David Jones married Sarah Louisa Williams at the Calvinistic Methodist Chapel in Rhyl. They spent their honeymoon in the Lake District. Sarah Louisa was the youngest daughter of the Rev John Williams, a Calvinistic minister, and Eunice Roberts who was from Llansannan. Her father was an ironmonger in Rhyl and owned the Phoenix foundry in Rhuddlan.

Her elder sister Eliza had married Edwin Jones in 1865, she also moved to Wrexham after her husband’s death, her daughter married into the Francis family.

Michael David and Sarah`s daughter Mabel was born in Brymbo on 22 June 1889 just a few weeks before her father died in the Lodge, Brymbo on 3 August 1889, there were also two children born before Mabel who died. Michael David Jones was buried in Wrexham Cemetery.

Sarah Louisa moved to 2 Bersham Road, where she was living on her own means.  She wasn`t struggling as Michael David had left a personal estate of £9244. 6s 10d.

Mother and daughter moved to 2 Victoria Road, and later to “Englefields” Salisbury Park.

Sarah Louise died in Gerald Street on 27 June 1932 and was buried with Michael David on 1 July 1932, she left effects of £2152 19s 9d. Probate was granted to James Bridge Francis and John Herbert Francis, chemists. These were related by marriage.

Mabel never married, she remained in Gerald Street and in 1939 was doing Voluntary Service, and she died aged 78 in the War Memorial Hospital and was buried with her parents on 21 February 1968.
